Background
The information in this module is based on the new California Recordkeeping Standard which was initiated on September 14, 2001 in a rulemaking proceeding by the Division of Labor Statistics and Research (DLSR). The provisions of this standard are in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8 Sections 14300-14300.48. The new California Recordkeeping standard is written in plain language and uses a Question and Answer format. It has several advantages over the old California Standard including:
The requirements of the new standard will affect thousands of establishments in California. Some industries in the retail, service, finance, insurance and real estate sectors are potentially exempt from most recording requirements as are small businesses with ten or fewer employees. While some employers are partially exempt from recording requirements, all employers in California are still required to immediately report serious occupational injuries, illnesses or the death of an employee. Employer Records of Occupational Injury and Illness This module was developed to assist employers and employees in California by providing an on-line educational resource. It can help familiarize you with the provisions of the new recordkeeping standard and address your questions about classifying and recording occupational injuries and illnesses in California. It was designed to be easy to use and interactive. Navigation The information presented in this educational module is divided into categories. Each category contains sections, which are numbered exactly the same as the sections in the new California Recordkeeping Standard. You can easily navigate through the module by using the Main Navigation Sidebar or "navigation quick-links". The Main Navigation Side-bar The Main Navigation Sidebar lists categories of information which are based on the new California Recordkeeping Standard. The Sidebar is always on the left of your screen. By moving the mouse over the categories (buttons), a white bar appears to show you which category (button) you are on. Simply click on the category (button) that you are interested in, to view a list of sections which correspond numerically to the sections in the new standard. Then, click on the section number of the information you wish to view.
